where are the chairs?

The School of Art and Design at Texas State University is primarily housed in the Joann Cole Mitte building, situated on the west side of campus. Within the building, you will find dozens of students sitting on the ground waiting for their next class. This building lacks a common gathering area for students. This work is an investigative newspaper and a call to action for the School of Art and Design. Written and compiled by myself and printed through Newspaper Club.

Content Breakdown

This newspaper has four text sections along with photos taken in the building and data from a survey completed by current and former Texas State Students. When compiling content I wanted to focus on a bigger picture message. The ideal outcome of this piece is for people to evaluate their surroundings and consider how their tuition money is being used at this institution. There are definitely bigger problems at this university, but beginning with something somewhat benign sets up a communication path with administration. So a comedic or ironic mood is expected but it holds potential to incite change. I am very thankful to the students who filled out my survey regarding the seating options and also to Michael Niblett, who was the Director of the School of Art and Design at the time of making this, who was nice enough to fit me into his schedule for an interview.
